Aware that we must all be actors in the ecological transition, more and more of our decisions integrate the control of our environmental impact!
What do we do for the environment?
- One of our objectives is to develop innovative solutions to meet challenges of the sector such as precision nutrition, economic performance of livestock farming, reduction of environmental impact and animal welfare.
As an example, Hum IPHORA has been launched in 2022 for broiler industry. It delivers sustainable and balanced benefits for the animals, customers, and the environment. Indeed, on the one hand, it reduces the amount of phosphorus discharged into litter, and on the other hand, lowers the number of trucks in the factory by reducing phosphate incorporation rate. After 6 years of development in collaboration with the Groupe Roullier research center (Centre Mondial de l’Innovation – CMI), we obtained the specific molecular of Hum IPHORA which contributes to precision nutrition concept, considering the interaction between ingredients in the feed matrix.
Another example deals with aquafeed industry. Phosphorus is an essential element for skeleton development, it has been demonstrated that a lack of P may lead to vertebral deformities in salmonids. Monoammonium phosphate (MAP), as it provides the highest phosphorus content and digestibility, is a well-known solution in aquafeed market that we already offer. But we were looking for a well-adapted solution dedicated to shrimps, often reared in pond with low water exchange. We decided thus to integrate monosodium phosphate (MSP) in our factory to provide a high digestible phosphorus for shrimps without increasing N discharge in the water.
- Another important goal is to reduce the environmental impact of our products, from extraction to consumption by controlling energy consumption & carbon footprint.
Since 2018, Phosphea has started actions at plant level to reduce gas and energy consumption. An assessment of its CO2 emissions has been carried out in 2021 and a second is underway in 2023. This is being done in order to respond to the obligation (BEGES) companies have in France, to publish their greenhouse gas emissions. In 4 years, a reduction of 5 354 t CO2 h
Since 2018, Phosphea has started actions to reduce gaz and energy consumption at factory level. An assessment of its CO2 emissions has been carried out in 2021 and a second is underway in 2023.
In 4 years, Phosphea achieved a reduction of gas (-18%) and energy (-7%) consumption which correspond to a decrease of 5 354 teq CO2 at a global scale. Phosphea is continuously working on the project and follow French regulation (article L. 229-25 of the Environment Code and articles R. 229-45 to R. 229-50-1).
